Best Practices for Oil & Gas

With the current oil and gas market conditions, it is more important than ever for the industry to come together to hear solutions and expertise on how to innovate – not only for survival, but for growth – as they maintain process efficiencies realized in the downturn. Best Practices for Oil & Gas is built and delivered by the oil and gas community, hear from your peers on the roadmap for digital transformation, how to reduce costs, drive operational efficiencies, use data for increased visibility and agility, and improve your bottom line. A collaboration between Eventful Conferences, ASUG and SAP, Best Practices for Oil & Gas is designed for all industry segments including upstream, midstream, downstream and oilfield services. The annual conference brings together senior leadership, decision-makers, business process owners, analysts, super users, support teams, solution providers and more to one location for an interactive event built around learning and collaboration. Leaner Staff, Deeper Analytics: Driving Greater Accountability with Fewer Resources using Business Objects

During the boom years where companies focused almost solely on growth, one of the often neglected areas of the business was granular cost and performance management at the individual well level. Quite simply, who was worried about small costs on a low performing well when everyone was busy drilling as fast as possible?  With the downturn, the focus quickly shifted to one of hyper scrutiny of each cost, and driving more performance out of even the lowest performance well.  Unfortunately, legacy accounting systems weren’t built to provide data in a way that is easily manageable by the field.  In fact, they didn’t even know how to provide the data broken out into field operations relevant hierarchies.  Enter business objects…by fully utilizing modern analytics technology we delivered fully field relevant P&L and LOE data, broken down in such a way that the field could take ownership of the data easily, while simultaneously allowing them to take a deep dive as needed into individual costs (at the invoice level) for each well.  The result has been an expansion of accountability, a field organization that can have each lease operator fully owning the performance, cost, and results of each and every well.

Implemented SAP! “Now what?”

You have implemented SAP, all your efforts towards the big day came to reality.”Now what?” This is no ordinary question one would ask. It is a question about what the future beholds, a state of mind, a restless pursuit of what can be. A challenge convention, to constantly ask “now what?” In order to continue to have the system running at its best and not lose the momentum of the buy in of the SAP users you, as CIO have to ensure to have the right support that is necessary to efficaciously resolve help-desk inquiries/tickets. In the past there have been several models presented (i would list the pros and cons in my presentation):

  • complete in house solution (pro and cons)
  • complete outsourced solution to foreign company (pro and cons)
  • a hybrid solution between onshore and offshore help-desk outsourced resources (pros and cons)
Excelerate Energy chose the hybrid solution and i like to share with the audience how our ticket numbers went from over 300 tickets to merely 45 on average. How the hybrid ASM solution is the new future to reduce cost but also work as partners to continuously improve on your SAP functionalities. As such Excelerate partnered up with Capgemini to find an integrated solution that takes into account both pros of the onshore/offshore hybrid solution.

Strengthening the Last Line of Defense in Cyber Security: End Users

Cyber security technology does an amazing job of protecting company assets, but it can be a step behind our adversaries. This ultimately leaves us with the last line of defense as our end users…but are our end users even aware that they have that responsibility and do they know what we are asking them to defend and how? This presentation will share our journey of moving from the scare tactics approach of cyber security into shedding some light on the challenges that we face, what we are doing to protect our assets and how the end user can help. Through leveraging a new approach to user awareness, some very inexpensive training software (~$100), and some unique incentives for participation, we have seen our end users become more cyber aware at work and at home.  This has resulted in an increase in reported phishing attempts and a reduction in infected machines. Key Business Benefits:

  • Better partnering with our lines of business on engaging with the cyber security team.
  • Reduction in the amount of pc's that have to be re-built due to infections.
  • An increase in the number of reported phishng attempts.
