Leading a Team to Championship

If anyone knows about leading a team, it’s legendary quarterback Peyton Manning. The NFL’s only five-time Most Valuable Player and a 14-time Pro Bowl selection, Peyton has earned his place among the greatest quarterbacks in league history. During his NFL career, Peyton led the Colts franchise to its first World Championship in 36 years during the 2006 season, earning MVP honors in the Colts’ 29-17 win over the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI. This past season, he led the Denver Broncos to a 24-10 win over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50, making him the first starting quarterback in NFL history to win a Super Bowl with two different teams. He has also been named Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated in 2013.

For his actions off the field, Manning was honored as the recipient of the Byron “Whizzer” White Humanitarian Award and the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2005 as well as the Bart Starr Award in 2015. Manning serves as a member of the American Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet and The Pat Summit Foundation Advisory Board. He and his wife, Ashley, established the PeyBack Foundation in 1999 to promote the future success of disadvantaged youth by assisting programs that provide leadership and growth opportunities for children at risk. The PeyBack Foundation has provided more than $10 million of impact to at-risk youth through its grants and programs since its inception. Manning continues to maintain a strong relationship with St. Vincent’s Children’s Hospital (Indianapolis), which in 2007 was renamed the “Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent.”

Join this exciting keynote where Peyton takes on an interview-style discussion on what it’s like to lead a team in crisis and in championship.

Operational Visibility in a U.S. Refinery (HSC)

HollyFrontier and Rolta have partnered to deliver operations dashboards on a unit and refinery level for two of its five refineries this year.  These dashboards will be used by various refining personnel from engineers to shift supervisors to ensure that critical and integrity operating limits are clearly visible compared to real time operational data.  Come learn how this project was delivered and what value has been realized as a result of vastly improved operations visibility.

CIO Panel: Connecting the Dots for Business Leaders: CIO’s as the Secret Weapon to a Competitive Edge

Moderated by: Peter Maier - General Manager Energy & Natural Resources Industries, SAP SE

The oil and gas CIO of 2016 must be far more than a technology leader of years past.  As each business process is examined through a ‘Digital Lens’, the CIO becomes more relevant and connected to each business unit. The CIO has the opportunity, and some even say the CIO has a fiduciary duty, to act as the renaissance leader for the business.  The CIO is a key, if not the primary key, to making change in a connected, digitized world.

Join CIO’s Nellson Burns of HollyFrontier, Ben Williams of Devon Energy and Blane Peery of Tesoro Corporation as they debate and discuss their perspective on the CIO as the renaissance leader for the digital enterprise and digital millennium. Moderated by Peter Maier of SAP SE, key topics they will discuss will include:

  • Why data analytics represents the largest change to all of our jobs and lives, and how a CIO and CEO should react

  • What scares a CIO about data analytics and why

  • Utilizing automation and data from automation to improve efficiency and better leverage capital

  • Seizing the business and shareholder opportunities of digital transformation in little and big ways – how big is the prize?

  • Enabling success through the art (or is it the science?) of prediction using ‘Big Data’

  • Why “all companies have to become software and data repository businesses to remain competitive”

Prepare for GAAP and IFRS New Revenue Recognition and Lease Accounting Guidelines

New GAAP and IFRS guidelines for recognizing and reporting revenue and operating lease obligations will have far-reaching impacts on financial results and disclosures starting in 2018.  Compliance will require integration of most commercial, operational, and support areas of your business.  Leveraging SAP solutions such as Revenue Accounting Recognition, Real Estate, and partner solutions will provide an integrated approach to addressing these comprehensive guidelines.

The Next 100 Years: a Forecast of the Challenges Facing the 21st Century World

No industry is more affected by global affairs than the oil and gas industry. From embargoes to activism to warfare - the costs, complexities and dangers of operating in the field can all vary significantly based on current events.

Consolidating for One Source of Truth for Remarkable Savings in a Down Economy: Why Investing in Technology Now is the Perfect Time (Finance)

Murphy Oil implemented SAP and retired more than 60 systems in 25 weeks achieving significant savings in implementation costs and from greater visibility.

Murphy’s thinking is what really impresses. They took a system-defined process and adjusted their company to fit it—a completely out-of-the-box solution with no code customization. Murphy Oil’s view: Let the system work as designed. If Financials, HR, Procurement and Plant Maintenance weren’t going to allow Murphy Oil to move the needle in terms of competitive advantage, why not implement a vanilla version and use the savings to deploy their resources on high-value exercises? Murphy’s entire landscape is now in the cloud and the savings are paying off.

By listening to Mike Orr (Murphy Oil) and Lars Langkowski (Accenture) you will:

  • Understand how Murphy Oil  is now positioned for M&A activity like never before

  • Hear why they are less dependent on specialist techies or customized process

  • Learn why being in a position to take advantage of core skill sets is ideal in the current market

Landscape Migration to HANA: ECC & Legacy SQL Server Warehouse (P&T)

In less than 4 months’ time, Devon Energy was able to build, test, and implement Suite on HANA and deliver significant performance gains when compared to their legacy platform. For the legacy SQL Server Warehouse, Enterprise HANA will unlock near real-time access to data from both SAP and non-SAP sources.

One of the main goals of this project, was to switch database technology without significantly impacting the user experience. Through a bit of trial and error and some technical hurdles, Devon developed a solution that offers tremendous performance improvements with little impact to the user.

Join Lane Hale as he describes Devon’s new platform, and their ability to use the raw, real-time data to more quickly make decisions and drive performance.

Survive to Thrive in the New Oil & Gas Normal

Today’s oil and natural gas industry is faced with many challenges, pressuring many companies to work smarter, understand how to ensure the right people are in the right roles, and find new ways to increase margins and preserve value – while retaining top talent and a strong culture to accelerate when the market conditions improve.

As a leading-edge organization, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, has positioned itself to weather a difficult market environment and also emerge as a stronger enterprise. With a disciplined and focused approach to preserving and building value, CEO Al Walker is leading Anadarko’s efforts to reduce costs, enhance efficiencies and set the stage for future ‘growth when the time is right’.

This includes a broad use of technology, data and analytics on one hand and an empowerment of employees and service providers on the other: two key components of success in any market. For Walker and the company’s leadership team, this means recognizing and rewarding the innovation and continuous improvement that will build value for stakeholders in the near term and position the company for long-term success.

Join Al Walker, CEO of Anadarko, as he shares his perspectives on why you ‘can’t coach speed’, creating an organization that understands the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and finding the balance between surviving today’s business challenges and thriving in tomorrow’s new normal.

Al Walker is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation. He joined Anadarko in 2005 as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, later serving as President and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining Anadarko, he worked in the oil and natural gas industry, investment and commercial banking and as an institutional investor.

Devon’s Journey to Connect with Suppliers Using Ariba (CSE)

Given today’s commodity price environment, managing supplier costs associated with capital projects and Lease Operating Expense has become critical. Meeting this challenge with on-premise solutions can be difficult due to data needs and manual interactions between operators and suppliers. Using Ariba’s cloud-based solution and SAP as the foundation, Devon Energy is driving value to our E&P business by providing automated price validation, more detailed visibility of spend, and improved timeliness of cost realization.

We are in the process of implementing Ariba to address the full lifecycle of electronic integration with suppliers including supplier onboarding, sourcing, contract management, procurement, invoicing, and supplier performance management. We will be live with supplier onboarding, sourcing, and contract management in May 2016 with the remaining functionality coming online in the next 12 months. The results are enabled by the 3-way partnership between Devon, Nitor Partners, and SAP Ariba services. The partnership was tested by conflicts between the project deployment approach and Ariba services model, but strong relationships prevailed using our mutual intent as our foundation to success.  Also critical has been the buy-in and interaction within the Devon organization including Supply Chain, Finance and Accounting, IT, and the E&P Business Units.

Historical communication challenges between operators and suppliers in our industry can be overcome by aligning people, processes, data, and technology for both sides. The Ariba Supplier Network is an enabler in allowing us to make that happen.

Boosting Productivity and Performance at Rig Locations (P&T)

Maximizing productivity demands assets which are running efficiently.  Effective utilization of the highly skilled maintenance personnel maintaining those assets demands a responsive system to manage their work and materials.  However, providing a responsive, accurate system at a rig location utilizing satellite communication is a challenge for many traditional plant maintenance applications.

Paragon Offshore implemented SAP’s transaction availability for remote sites, or TARS, to extend plant maintenance functionality to their offshore locations.  The result gained kudos from their maintenance staff for ease of use and very fast performance.  Business processes can now be completed right away, without hung screens or rolled-back transactions, which means accurate inventory and up-to-date visibility of work to be completed.  Those factors equate to productivity improvements and significant cost savings, as well as improved morale.

The presenters will discuss their implementation of the TARS solution and highlight the benefits they have observed to date.

Predicting the Future with Real Time Advanced Analytics (OI)

By combining advanced predictive analytics and real time data analysis, we are able to predict and avoid one of the most costly incident in the completions process. Preventing a screenout has been considered impossible as the deep analytics required is usually only available with a large volume of data after the incident has already happened. Leveraging deep analytics and large volumes of historical data captured during previous completions activities, we were able to build many advanced models with the ability to predict a screenout before it happened. We leverage advanced computation engines to apply the most effective model to the real time completions data during the completions process. These models are then able to classify significant flows of data and accurately access the risk of a screenout in real time and provide a current and accurate visualization to the completions team members. A cross functional group broke down barriers across IT, Analytics, Drilling and Completions, and Data Management to provide a solution to one of the most challenging, complex, and costly challenges in the completions process.

Accelerate Your Asset Acquisitions (CSE, Finance)

Upstream Oil & Gas companies strategically look to acquire assets as a method for growth and market penetration. The integration of those new assets into their SAP environment is critical to gain the most value from the acquisition.  Frequently the data conversion to an SAP system is considered a trivial task and is given inadequate attention in the overall integration timeline.  A proper data conversion strategy is key to the success of supporting these assets within SAP.  While working with SM Energy during their SAP ERP implementation, Akili developed a rapid deployment data migration solution to accelerate the conversion of critical data to support an acquisition.

Learn how to leverage the following with your next acquisition:

  • A SAP Rapid Deployment Solution (RDS) that can be quickly deployed in your environment using standard SAP tools (Data Services)

  • Over 70 pre-built data load objects

  • A pre-defined data load process with key tasks and dependencies to optimize the data load time

  • Pre-developed error reporting to assist with data quality issue identification

  • Tools to support auditing of the conversion process

Operational Visibility in a U.S. Refinery (HSC)

HollyFrontier and Rolta have partnered to deliver operations dashboards on a unit and refinery level for two of its five refineries this year.  These dashboards will be used by various refining personnel from engineers to shift supervisors to ensure that critical and integrity operating limits are clearly visible compared to real time operational data.  Come learn how this project was delivered and what value has been realized as a result of vastly improved operations visibility.

Making Downstream Refining Mergers & Acquisitions Work (HSC)

In the past year, PBF Energy has acquired two large refineries which has expanded their geographic footprint in the US into two new supply regions. These acquisitions came with sizable SAP footprints that had to be understood, integrated into the PBF's existing IT, and folded into PBF's overall support model - within an aggressive Change-in-Control (CIC) schedule.

We employed a strong emphasis on communication from the very beginning and built a plan that kept the M&A parties involved in the key decisions around organization and IT. We maintained a consistent engagement with the HR function throughout the process from acquisition planning to execution of CIC. We also relied on partners who both understand the downstream refining business and how to deploy major SAP programs.

Engaging in a refining acquisition is a major transformation effort for both parties involved, but with the right approach and execution these programs can managed in a cost effective and timely fashion - enabling your company to accelerate the value capture from the new asset.

Thinking Differently About Well Performance & Unlocking Greater Production Using BusinessObjects (OI & IDOO)

EP Energy has made a philosophical shift in how they look at well performance. What they found enabled them to unlock hidden well potential and demonstrate measurable production gains without expending any capital or LOE.

EP Energy sought to standardize, capture, and provide robust, dynamic analysis of the causes of production deferment.  By coming up with a company-wide definition of well capacity, standardizing and systematically capturing rate loss reasons, and generating intuitive analytics in SAP BusinessObject we've changed the way our organization views well performance.

It is possible to revolutionize decades old ways of thinking through the combination the right ideas and the right analytics. Join Chris Josefy as he discusses how EP Energy leveraged SAP’s BusinessObjects to unleash their production and performance.

Reimagining an Efficient Data Process to Reduce Cost: a Halliburton Story (OI)

Halliburton had hundreds of personnel with access to manipulate data over their sites. Is it a shop? Is it a warehouse? Who occupies this location?  How much space is available?  With a lack of knowledge and differing definitions, key data input was haphazard or incorrect. Using SAP’s Real Estate module and Winshuttle, Halliburton has since transformed their real estate tasks and responsibilities to increase data visibility and reduce company costs immediately.

Join us as Edward Scott explains how you can:

  • Centralize data management duties globally to a team of 6 analysts while,

  • Improving efficiency, data quality and organizational analytics; and,

  • Match additional software with well-crafted processes to prepare key data for future decision making

In so doing, Halliburton was able to unburden those in the field, open up employee time for better analysis and training, and provide data to empower strategic decision-making – all with provable cost savings to Halliburton.

Improving Data Visibility & Assurance while Reducing the Cost of Integrated Sustainability Data Collection Utilizing SAP SuPM (OI & HSC)

Enables organisations to collect data on EHS and other sustainability KPIs regionally and globally; directly from KPI owners with the associated proof and governance approvals.  The data can then be centrally audited.

Able to collect data on time from all global reporting hubs and ability to track data deviations month on month. It also resulted in a cost saving due to the reduction in resources required in the data collection process.

By demonstrating to the employees that the implementation of an “easy to use” system to improve on their current laborious manual data collection and approval process would improve organisation effectiveness.  We also demonstrated to the senior management that this system would improve data governance and simplify data assurance and also result in cost saving.

People readily embrace a solution that simplify their lives and is easy to use while companies find this a cost effective way to enable data collection and assurance.

A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned: Overhead Cost Centre Visibility When You Need It Most (OI)

Today’s hydrocarbon supply chain (Customer to Crude) is full of complexity and hidden costs. Downstream (and midstream) companies continue to optimize their supply chain operations to gain complete inventory visibility and improve margin to meet customer product demands.

This session will take the format of a moderated discussion and will explore what real SAP customer companies are doing today to improve their operations in areas such as commodity trading, supply planning and scheduling, and secondary distribution of their hydrocarbons. It will also explorer the future of the reimaged hydrocarbon movement to help simplify collaboration, improve automation, and lower transpiration costs.

A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned: Overhead Cost Centre Visibility When You Need It Most (OI)

Though Precision already had existing SAP Business Warehouse and BusinessObjects platforms in place, key overhead cost centre data attributes were dirty and lacking in structure. Front-line managers had to rely heavily on accounting to provide timely, vital information on overhead costs they are accountable for, causing disempowerment for data and costs.

Chris Ames recognized the need to empower those managers to understand that their costs were in control, so he and his team set out to develop a secure SAP BusinessObjects dashboard that empowers and holds accountable 140+ responsible department managers overseeing almost 400 overhead cost centres.

  • Start small - 40 key corporate overhead cost,

  • Cleaning up the attributes and applying them to a clean and functional dashboard.

  • Users have the ability to drill down with minimal clicks through an SAP WEBI report

  • Transparency leads to ownership and accountability

  • Handling organizational culture and change management amidst chaos

  • Sweating your existing technology investments to create data visibility for agility

  • Reducing operating costs and optimizing cash flow

Transacting Rentals While Maintaining Corporate Visibility of the Equipment (IDOO)

Seventy Seven Energy has been able to successfully transact renting equipment to their customer base with continued visibility to, on and from the job site.

They’ve accomplished transacting rentals by repurposing existing SAP logic to accommodate the in and out processes. As they matured they migrated to using CLEAR UI in order to consolidate the transactions steps and further standardize the process.

Although SAP is not a Rental Solution, it is more than capable of providing your business with the capability to rent your equipment, maintain visibility, and improve the user experience for both your employee and your customer.

Understanding Risk & Simplifying Complex EHS Data, When Change is Constant (P&T, CSE)

Change in our industry involves increases or shifts in operational risks and associated exposure points. Near-constant change requires continuous risk management for Anadarko’s world-wide operations.

Anadarko’s leadership has identified Environmental Performance as one of six key objectives for the business, along with Occupational Health & Personal Safety, and three other priorities. Foundational to our strategy is the standardization of the tools and systems on which the underlying business processes are enabled. Towards this we selected SAP’s suite of EHS/Sustainability solutions and have since designed and implemented SAP’s EHSM-Incident Management solution globally in order to provide a key foundational piece of the Operational Risk Management strategy. We have extending the standard functionality to capture and manage all EHS tasks ranging from HSE Audit Corrective Tasks to Environmental Impact Assessment Tasks.  Anadarko also developed a mobile observation application to obtain operational efficiencies.

Come hear how we implemented HSE Action Tracker; Mobile Observations; How we integrated SAP technologies to deliver streamlined Incident Management, Risk Assessment/Corrective Action and improvement process.

Little Wins in Tough Times (IDOO)

Continental has been working on several projects related to processes and communication across the organization in order to leverage the downturn and prepare for the future. With a focus on internal resources, this has involved improved communication across the organization using previously-owned SAP technology. Projects include well header integration – master data for which presides within SAP, process improvements that have enabled automation, and cross training employees to learn new skills, while still bringing cash in the door.

As each of these projects has proceeded, Continental has found ways to do more with less and keep employees – particularly their best IT and accounting people – engaged and empowered through the turn. Continental employees have also learned so much more about the importance of their data – who owns it and how it is used by others, establishing ownership and visibility.

Break Down Barriers Between Project Systems for Better Process Integration (CSE)

In today’s competitive oil and gas industry, successful companies have learned that integrating key processes across their various schedule, accounting, control and procurement systems can be a significant way to reduce costs and optimize cash flow. In this presentation, learn how Kiewit Corporation is implementing InfinyD in their oil and gas business to reduce the procurement processing time by weeks while also ensuring the traceability of materials needed to keep projects moving forward.

To overcome the challenge of bridging processes across systems, Kiewit turned to the InfinyD enterprise visualization platform from InEight Inc. Specifically, they leveraged the ability of InfinyD to link project data from Primavera P6, SAP and mobile jobsite devices to streamline their material procurement processes. Now, the material purchases can be initiated directly from a visual model that is enriched with all relevant project data.

A new class of integrated project platforms can significantly streamline inefficient processes to yield valuable savings in both money and time.

Enabling Interventions through Data Analytics (IDOO, P&T)

BP leadership needed group-wide data to focus intervention and monitor successes after interventions were made, but the federated landscape and quarterly release cycles made gathering this info harder than it has ever been. It took literally hundreds of man hours per system across many programs to create and analyze data.

To address this issue, BP implemented HANA. Connecting it to strategic ERPs and identifying the necessary data sets, BP was able to make data self-sufficient. This allowed users to pull up data in near real time and refine or add data sets without waiting for quarterly releases, saving exceptional amounts of time and preventing delays in necessary interventions.

Implementing HANA and creating greater data visibility allows for targeting interventions in all the right places, and prevents the business from holding onto false hopes or delaying necessary fixes.

Operating at the Speed of Business: Trusted Analytics in near Real-Time (P&T, OI)

At Marathon we implemented an Operational Data Store running on HANA for production surveillance purposes.  The system was aggregating data from several SAP ERP, non-SAP and BW systems. Prior to its implementation, users were going into various systems to pull this data. They had limited means to put together a trustworthy story. Now, with the DOF/Production Surveillance solution on HANA platform business users can view the real time information and perform analytics at the speed of business.

To achieve this we used smart data access, HANA PAL functions and various other leading edge pieces of the platform, including the use of XS engine/Node server. We brought in data from various systems like real time production data from SCADA, allocated volumes from Production allocation systems, drilling information, planning information, maintenance data.  Come learn how this was built in 6 months and how you too can achieve such amazing results.

The challenge is to have an integrated SAP solution for Turnaround Scoping, Planning, Scheduling, and Execution which covers the various aspects that need to be managed. This session will be about what the typical requirements are and how solution development in a partnership with SAP will be able to deliver this.

S/4HANA Finance & the Future of the Financials Roadmap (P&T, Finance)

S/4 Finance is a proof of concept effort conducted jointly by ExxonMobil and SAP. The goal of the PoC was to review the change management required to activate S/4 Finance, assess the business impacts and benefits of business process changes, evaluate the reporting scenarios between ERP and BW, and understand the future of the Financials Roadmap.

This project reviewed the mandatory change management required to activate S/4 Finance to determine their impact on existing processes. Further, it reviewed the enhanced functionality provided by the product and analyzed a limited number of relevant Fiori Apps.

The results showed greatly improved analytics, higher speed of transactions and reporting, and an enhanced user experience. Over 100 financial test cases successfully completed with no showstoppers identified.
